Keeping it sealed.

Precision-drilled hydraulic components such as lock cylinders help keep freight hatches securely sealed even at high altitudes.

There is more to deep hole drilling than drilling deep holes. The term refers to a shaping process for producing interior contours in materials. In aviation, for instance, precision drillings are important for safety. The surface quality and the run-out inside the material are crucial.

Reliable and economic.

Deep hole drilling differs from conventional processes by one major factor: the depth of the drill hole is greater than its diameter. Factors greater than ten are a good indicator of deep hole drilling. In practice, diameters of 25 mm at drilling
depths of 1250 mm are rather frequent. Deep hole drilling processes require high repetition accuracy and long tool runtimes. Usually, the tool specialists and cooling lubrication experts on the project team will pre-select the optimal processing parameters and concentration of coolant lubricant.

Gun drills are typical tools used in deep hole drilling. They get their name from their primary purpose in the past: the production of gun barrels. The cooling lubricant is guided through the inside of the tool. At the openings of the drill head, it hits the blades and guide rails at high pressure – often as much as 120 bar. The v-shaped groove discharges the shavings to the rear. Other processes apply the cooling lubricant externally and discharge it through an interior pipe together with the shavings.

Depending on the drilling process, large amounts of cooling lubricant are guided towards the cutting point under high pressure either externally or through the inside of the drill. The cooling lubricant fulfils multiple functions: it provides cooling and lubricates both the contact areas between the workpiece and the tool blade and those between the workpiece and the guide rails. It also ensures the continuous discharge of shavings from the processing area. Deep hole drilling offers a high degree of productivity and excellent surface quality, dimensional
accuracy and diameter tolerance.

Cutting mechanics distinguish between three deep hole drilling processes: gun drilling, BTA drilling (involving the external application of cooling lubricant and internal discharge of shavings) and ejector drilling, a variation of BTA drilling. All
these processes produce precise drill holes.

Materials that are particularly hard to machine, such as those used to produce heavy-duty components, can be processed safely using specially designed lubricants. Precision processing also makes lightweight construction components
and engine parts in powerful vehicles useful parts of any low-emission strategy.

Even though the interplay between the workpiece, drilling tool, machine and lubricant is highly complex, modern cooling lubricant technologies can adapt to new, challenging material, process and manufacturer requirements as they arise.
BECHEM Avantin products have been solving the problems of end users and development partners for decades. They are an economic way of managing materials that are difficult to cut, such as nickel-base alloys. BECHEM Avantin 3309 and BECHEM Avantin 4409 set global standards. botek, a manufacturer
of deep-drilling tools, has recommended these varieties for the economic use of its tools.

Performance. 400 % longer tool paths. 1200 % greater durability of the guide rails.

Precision drilling turns aluminum materials into components that facilitate thousands of nearly imperceptible gear changes in modern vehicles – safely and economically. Wherever ZF gearboxes are in use, the valve plate was almost certainly drilled with BECHEM Avantin 361-1 ZF. For more than 15 years, the ZF Group has been using products from the BECHEM Avantin range for the precision processing of valve plates. The control components are produced at various BECHEM sites worldwide. They feature in eight-gear, nine-gear and, in future, ten-gear automatic transmissions in German premium cars.  BECHEM asserts its technological leadership in the global market. License production of these transmission components requires global availability and technical support, both of which are guaranteed by BECHEM teams in Europe and the United States.

BECHEM Avantin products from the 400 range are succeeding their technological predecessors. In collaboration with a leading tool manufacturer in Denmark, BECHEM has demonstrated that a concentration reduction of 50% can
reliably increase feed rates by 400%. Its excellent process data are the result of continuous optimization and development in consideration of heightening
market requirements. BECHEM is prepared. It meets the strict European
regulations in full. Even in the aviation industry, which is subject to the most
demanding safety and security standards, the exemplary performance of
BECHEM process media contributes to safe travels for all. Chassis and hydraulic
components are processed with BECHEM Avantin 4409. According to one user, BECHEM Avantin alone was sufficient for deep-drilling a freight hatch lock cylinder in three stages. No other product allowed the supplier to extend the tool path of their cutting edges by 400% and increase the runtime of the guide rails by an incredible 1200%.

Precision drilling masters: BECHEM cooling lubricants have been used in the manufacture of automatic transmission control plates for premium vehicles for more than 15 years.

Deep hole drilling and precision drilling produce extremely precise geometries in the production of powerful injection molding machines. To make everyday items such as toothbrushes, razors and vessels for cosmetics, vast quantities of plastic granulates are pressed over surfaces that were manufactured with BECHEM Avantin 3309 in a deep hole drilling process. BECHEM has also raised the bar for Europe in the field of injection molding. Tool specialists rely on BECHEM Avantin 3309/4409 as a guarantee for perfect results.

Our process specialists have collaborated intensely with universities, industry players and tool manufacturers to develop a tried, tested and secure production concept in the segment of deep hole drilling and precision drilling.
